STALKER 2 Stamina: Why You Cannot Run Anywhere
Stamina is governed by weight, hunger and regeneration, and running out in the open is how players die. How the meters interact.
What drains it
Sprinting. The largest drain, and the one players use most. Weight. A heavy load reduces your maximum stamina and your regeneration, so a loaded player cannot run as far and recovers more slowly. The inventory page covers the weight budget in detail. Hunger. A depleted hunger meter reduces stamina performance, which is the argument for carrying food even though it feels optional. Combat. Aiming, dodging, and melee all cost stamina, so arriving at a fight empty is arriving unable to react.
Why it matters more than it looks
Because the Zone’s fights are rarely won by standing still. Against mutants you need to move; against humans you need to relocate after firing; against anomalies you need to cross ground quickly. A player with no stamina has one option, which is to stand and shoot, and that is the option that gets people killed. So stamina is not a travel stat. It is the stat that decides whether your combat plan is available.
Managing it
Walk between fights, sprint inside them. The instinct is the reverse, and it is why players arrive at a firefight exhausted. Stop to regenerate before danger, not during it. Regeneration while standing still is much faster than while moving, so a ten-second pause before a building is worth more than a long slow walk through it. Drop weight you do not need. Loot is heavy and you cannot sell it if you die. The weight artifacts page covers the build side, where artifacts trade carry capacity for other bonuses.
The upgrades that change it
Artifacts and armour can improve carry capacity or regeneration, which converts stamina from a limit into a stat you can build around. That is the main reason a mid-game character feels dramatically more mobile than a starting one — not speed, but endurance. The armour page covers slots and weight, and artifact hunting is where the capacity artifacts come from.
The rule to internalise
Never enter an engagement with an empty stamina bar. If you are out of breath, you are not in a position to fight — you are in a position to be shot while walking. Waiting ten seconds is almost always the correct decision and almost always the one players skip.
