Destiny 2 Gjallarhorn: How to Get the Wolfpack Rocket
Gjallarhorn comes from the And Out Fly the Wolves quest. Here is every step, the fastest Wolfpack Round farm, and the catalyst
Gjallarhorn is the rocket launcher everyone remembers, and it is still a top boss-DPS tool in the game. Its Wolfpack Rounds perk splits each rocket into tracking cluster missiles. Firing it also grants Wolfpack Rounds to nearby fireteam members using non-exotic rocket launchers.
How to get Gjallarhorn
Gjallarhorn is quest-locked. You cannot get it from a random world drop or a Xur engram.
- Own the Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack. The quest is part of that paid pack.
- Complete a run of Dares of Eternity on any difficulty.
- Talk to Xur at his Treasure Hoard in Eternity and pick up the quest “And Out Fly the Wolves” for free.
- Speak with Shaw Han in the Cosmodrome.
- Complete the Grasp of Avarice dungeon as part of the quest.
- Collect 7 Wolfpack Rounds from Fallen elites. The Exodus Garden 2A lost sector in the Cosmodrome is the fastest spot.
- Clear Exodus Garden 2A, then turn the quest in with Shaw Han and craft the weapon.
The dungeon is the long step. A fireteam of three clears it far faster than solo. Manage the Burden of Riches stacks early and do not let the 30-second timer run out.
The Gjallarhorn catalyst
The catalyst comes from three hidden chests inside a single Grasp of Avarice run. The chests are at Skywatch, the Rusted Gangplank, and the Sunken Lair. Each is guarded by a Reaver Vandal that drops a Burdened by Riches engram. Grab the engram and open the chest before the timer expires. You must open the first two chests for the third Vandal to spawn, so do not leave any behind. The rest of the checklist is on the exotic catalysts page.
Where the quest actually stalls
Three places, and none of them is the boss.
The Wolfpack Round step. Only Fallen elites drop the rounds, so farming open-world Fallen burns an entire evening. Exodus Garden 2A gets recommended because its elite density per minute is the highest in the Cosmodrome and the lost sector resets almost instantly — you are optimising respawn rate, not kill count.
The chests. They gate each other. Skip one and the third Vandal never spawns, so a team redoes the whole dungeon instead of that single room.
Xur. He hands out the quest at the Treasure Hoard, but he never sells the weapon outright and it will never appear in his weekly stock. If you have checked Xur’s inventory hoping to buy it, that is why it is never there.
FAQ
Is Gjallarhorn free? No. You need the 30th Anniversary Pack to start the quest.
Can I solo the quest? Yes, but the dungeon step is slow and unforgiving alone. Bring a fireteam if you can.
Does it still work in endgame? Yes. The Wolfpack buff it hands to teammates is what keeps it relevant — it works as a team damage multiplier rather than as a rocket with a big number.
