Destiny 2 One Thousand Voices catalyst guide

How the One Thousand Voices catalyst works, where old exotic catalysts come from now, and the fastest way to finish its kill objectives.

You finally watched One Thousand Voices drop from Riven, equipped it, and noticed the catalyst slot is still empty. That is normal. The rifle is not finished until you track the catalyst down and charge it.

How exotic catalysts work

A catalyst is a separate item you own, not something pulled from Collections. Open the weapon details screen and check the catalyst node. That is where progress tracks and where you equip the finished upgrade.

The objectives follow the same pattern for almost every exotic. Defeat opponents with the weapon equipped, then claim the perk at the node. Most ask for a set number of kills, sometimes across both PvE combatants and Guardians. Do not dismantle unknown catalyst items by accident, because they sit in the same inventory space as other gear.

For One Thousand Voices, the payoff is an upgrade to the weapon and its perk. Check the perk text in-game for the exact effect, because these upgrades have been tuned more than once.

Where to find it today

Old exotic catalysts no longer have a dedicated farm. Bungie folded many of them into later systems, so they can appear from endgame activities and from Xûr’s rotating weekend stock. Check Xûr first, since his stall is the cheapest path when he happens to carry it. His stock rotates weekly, so a miss this weekend is not a permanent no.

The Triumphs panel also tracks which catalysts you still owe, which saves you from chasing one you already own. Our catalysts guide covers the wider unlock flow.

While you wait on the drop, run whatever content you enjoy. The kill objectives accumulate across any activity, so progress does not require a dedicated farm. Equip the weapon before you start and leave it equipped, because most trackers only count kills with it in hand.

Using the rifle well

One Thousand Voices is a boss-delete tool, not a general-purpose heavy. Save its charge for encounters where a single burst can wipe a clustered health bar. Our One Thousand Voices guide covers where the rifle fits in the current sandbox.
