Destiny 2 Telesto: Delayed Orb Fusion Rifle
Telesto fires orbs that stick and detonate after a delay. Here is the Xur source, how the multikill chains work, and the catalyst
Telesto is an exotic fusion rifle that fires projectiles which attach to surfaces and enemies, then detonate after a short delay. The delay is the trick: you fire, move, and let the orbs clean up. Multi-kills chain naturally because groups eat several orbs at once.
How to get Telesto
Telesto sits in Xur’s weekly exotic pool in the energy slot. Buy it from him on the weekend with Glimmer, Legendary Shards, and an Exotic Cipher. Exotic Engrams can also drop it.
How to play Telesto
Fire at feet and corners rather than bodies. The orbs stick and wait, so an enemy that walks into the zone dies without you aiming at them. In Gambit and PvE add-clear, pre-fire chokepoints and doorways. In PvP, the delayed detonation wins objective fights because enemies commit before the orbs pop. The orbs also serve as motion trackers, since a detonation tells you something walked in. In the Crucible, throw them at common push routes before the round starts.
The Telesto catalyst
The Telesto catalyst comes from Legend and Master Lost Sectors. It boosts handling and ammo reserves, which keeps the weapon viable in high-level content.
How players waste the delay
- Expecting instant fusion-rifle damage. The delay is the design.
- Firing at long range, where the projectile travel hurts.
- Standing next to your own orbs.
FAQ
Is Telesto good in PvP? Yes, for area denial on objective modes.
Does it work in PvE? It clears groups well but is weaker on single bosses.
What is the best mode for it? Control and Gambit, where zones matter.
Telesto’s real counterplay in PvP
The orbs are visible, and that is the whole counterplay: an opponent who sees them will not walk into the zone, so the weapon’s value drops from kills to movement denial. That is still worth a slot. Every orb that closes a doorway costs the enemy a route, and objective modes are won by removing routes rather than by deleting players. Where it fails is against a team that pushes through the delay on purpose — a fast push crosses the zone before it pops, so pre-firing a route you are not holding is wasted ammo. Pair it with a team that can hold the angle the orbs are covering; on its own it stalls. The Crucible starter guide covers the route logic, and Gambit is where the chokepoint habit pays most.
