Mark the tankiest enemy in the group first and the weakest last. Damage from a detonation carries to everything nearby, so a chain that starts on a red bar dies on the second link, while a chain that starts on the major keeps enough damage in the sequence to clear the room.
Two habits follow. Hip-fire before you commit to aimed shots — the tracking projectiles are how marks are applied, and an aimed shot at an unmarked enemy does nothing special. And do not pop a single mark early: three marks on three targets are worth more than one detonation now, because the explosion radius overlaps only when the group is still clustered.
