Space Marine 2 Bulwark Chapter Banner Build

How the Bulwark's Chapter Banner restores squad armour, how its shield blocks ranged fire, and why it is the most valuable class in a random group.

The Chapter Banner

The Bulwark’s signature ability plants a Chapter Banner that pulses an area effect, restoring armour to all nearby squad members for a brief period. With the right perks it can also heal. In a random group this is the single most valuable contribution in the game: when two teammates are down to their last segment, dropping the banner refills the whole squad at once. Time it before a known spike — a majoris add wave or a boss phase — rather than after everyone is already empty.

The combat shield

The Bulwark’s melee weapon works like everyone else’s for parry purposes, but its shield adds ranged defence. Perks such as Armour of Contempt and Masterful Defence trigger off “block a ranged attack,” and players hold the button to raise the shield against gunfire. Update 10.0 also added a charged Shield Bash, giving the Bulwark a melee opener that is not just a parry.

Why it has no primary weapon

The Bulwark is a tanky, up-close class built around a powerful melee weapon and the shield. The lack of a primary rifle is intentional — its job is to hold the line, not to clear at range. That makes team composition matter: pair it with a Heavy or Sniper who can answer the ranged and floating threats the Bulwark cannot.

Perk priority

Take armour-restoration and team perks first. A banner that heals or lasts longer helps three people, not one, and the squad-wide value is what earns the Bulwark its reputation. Damage perks are a luxury once the support foundation is in place. For the rest of the team, read the classes overview and executions as your armour refill. The armour segments page explains why a three-segment class like the Bulwark has more room to hold the line.
