Hunt 2.9 Fair Play: What Cheater Kills Refund

Update 2.9 added Fair Play reimbursement - players killed by a confirmed cheater get a Hunt Dollar payment. What is not covered, and why it is a start.

What the system does

Per the official 2.9 communication:

  • Players killed by a subsequently confirmed cheater receive a flat payment in Hunt Dollars.
  • Reports that contribute to enforcement action generate a notification.
  • Both messages appear when the affected player next logs in after action has been taken.

What it does not do

Crytek is explicit that this is a fixed Hunt Dollar reimbursement, not a complete reconstruction of the lost hunter, equipment, and match outcome. Your dead hunter stays dead. Your carried gear stays gone. The studio describes the implementation as an initial step toward more complex reimbursements, not a finished solution.

Why this matters anyway

In an extraction game the loss is the punishment, and a flat Hunt Dollar refund at least acknowledges the economic hit even if it cannot return the specific hunter or the time invested. It is a meaningful cultural signal — Crytek is tracking confirmed cheaters and compensating victims — even if the math is deliberately limited.

How it connects to the rest of 2.9

The reimbursement sits alongside the MMR Decay system and the Loadout Trait save as part of 2.9’s player-experience layer, separate from the headline hidden-information overhaul. None of these change the core loop; they reduce friction around the edges.

Practical note

You do not need to do anything to opt in — if a cheater who killed you is later confirmed, the payment arrives on your next login. Keep reporting; the notification system means your reports now have a visible downstream effect. For the broader survival picture, the death-attribution series (audio, positioning, timing, loadout) covers the deaths that are not anyone’s fault but your own.
