Hunt Death by Loadout: Gear Choices That Kill You

The fourth death mode is loadout - no Spyglass in 2.9, wrong ammo for the fight, or a kit that cannot answer what you meet. Part 4 of the series.

Mistake 1: no Spyglass after 2.9

This is the newest and most expensive mistake. With extractions, supply points, and scout towers hidden by default, a Spyglass is now one of the highest-value tools in the game — it reveals hidden icons on your compass within a 75m radius as you move. Running without one in 2.9 means navigating blind toward exits you cannot see, which is how solo hunters wander into fights they could have avoided. See the hidden-info page for the full rule change.

Mistake 2: ammo that cannot answer the threat

Hunt’s bosses and heavily armored hunters demand penetration, and a kit built entirely around soft-target damage will stall against a Meathead or a well-armored rival. You do not need a spreadsheet — you need to know which of your rounds punch through and bring at least some. Pair this with the 2.9 balance changes if you are re-evaluating weapon choices after the patch.

Mistake 3: no tool for the situation

Concertina, a decoy, a fuse, or a choke each answers a specific problem. A kit with none of them is a kit that cannot break a trap, fake a position, or slow a push. The 2.9 price adjustments made some tools cheaper (Tool Box 70 to 25 Hunt Dollars, Medical Pack 35 to 15), so there is less excuse for showing up empty.

Mistake 4: overspecializing

A pure-sniper kit cannot clear a compound, and a pure-shotgun kit cannot answer a long lane. Hunt rewards a build that can do two jobs, not one. The Burgess shotgun added in 2.9 is a reminder that even new weapons fit a role, not a whole kit.

How to drill it

The solo route guide treats loadout as the solo hunter’s force multiplier, because there is no partner to compensate for a missing tool. Build your kit against the four death modes, not against a single fantasy, and your deaths become choices you can predict instead of surprises.
